Benz to add 120k NEVs in China, first are two pure electric SUVs

Recently,with many of Mercedes-Benz's major models have been launched or been exposed their spy photos, attracting many fans in the car industry. IIA learned from Beijing Municipal Ecological Environment Bureau that Beijing Benz Automotive Co.,Ltd. (BBAC) plans to rebuild a new automobile factory for the production of pure electric vehicles. After the completion of the factory renovation, it will mainly produce EQC and EQB five-seat and seven-seat models,of which EQC has an annual production capacity of 15,000 units,EQB five-seat and seven-seat versions with annual production capacity of 65,000 and 40,000 units respectively. In addition, EQC will be available in the next Q4.

It is learnt that BBAC intends to add and renovate the original production line of the existing workshops in the MRA and MFA plants to produce two pure electric passenger cars, EQC and EQB. The MRA plant mainly produces EQC with an annual production capacity of 15,000 units. The MFA plant mainly produces EQB models. The five-seat and seven-seat versions have an annual production capacity of 65,000 and 40,000 units respectively. The total investment of the plant renovation project is 19.0278 billion RMB yuan (approx. USD 277 million). After the factory reconstruction is completed. The MRA and MFA will increase the annual production capacity of 120,000 pure electric vehicle products.

The interior appearance of the EQC incorporates some of the design elements of the Generation EQ concept car, making it more avant-garde. The front grille is not fully enclosed, but somewhat similar to the air intake style. The headlights on both sides are novel in style, and the internal daytime running lights are connected to the grille lights and are embellished with blue elements, allowing it more recognizable. It is also worth mentioning that EQC will provide two styles of front end, in which the grille and lower bumper design of the AMG-Line Sport version are more sporty.

The EQC is 4661mm in length, 1898mm in width and 1664mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2873mm. In terms of cruising range, the new car battery pack has a mass of 650kg, a minimum energy density of 120 Wh/kg, and a cruising range of 500km.

In terms of power, the EQC is equipped with a full-time 4WD system consisting of two asynchronous motors. The combined maximum power is 300kW, the peak torque is 765Nm. Its 0-100km/h acceleration time is 5.1 seconds and highest speed can reach 180km/h.

The EQB model is based on GLB and is designed to be a square shape. The front grille features double banner trims, and the headlights on both sides will integrate LED daytime running lights and LED turn signal strips. Meanwhile, the roof is also equipped with a luggage rack, which looks more "off-road". The new seven-seat version has a length of 4624mm, a width of 1840mm, a height of 1686mm and a wheelbase of 2830mm. The five-seat version is 4404mm in length, 1840mm in width and 1620mm in height, and with a wheelbase of 2729mm. In terms of cruising range, the EQB battery pack has a mass of 475kg with a minimum battery energy density of 120Wh/kg, and a cruising range of 360km.
